In recent years, more adults are receiving ADHD diagnoses than ever before, not necessarily because it is becoming more common, but because there is reduced stigma, more awareness and recognition, improved diagnostic tools and practices and access to care of a condition that may have been previously underdiagnosed and overlooked.

And of course COVID-19, which has had such a huge affect on so many of us physically and mentally, may have exacerbated ADHD symptoms, particularly in those who relied on structured environments for focus and organisation.

For many adults, getting an ADHD diagnosis is a moment of clarity — suddenly, lifelong struggles with focus, clutter, and routines make sense.

I have worked with children and young people with ADHD for many years in my work as a mental health nurse and I have a little boy who regularly struggles with focus, routine and managing his big emotions when he feels overwhelmed.

Now as a professional organiser, I work with individuals navigating these challenges daily.  Individuals desperately wanting order but really struggling to achieve it and maintain it.

So this is the thing…..disorganisation is not a moral failing. It’s often a mismatch between traditional systems and how your brain works and being organised can actually help to mitigate symptoms.

How ADHD Affects Home Organisation

People with ADHD often have so many different thoughts all at once and experience difficulties with executive function—difficulty with planning, prioritising and maintaining routines.

This can show up in the home as:

Piles of “stuff” with no clear place

Starting multiple projects but finishing none

Difficulty maintaining tidy spaces

Overwhelm when trying to declutter or reorganise

Forgetting where things are, even moments after putting them down

Sound familiar? You’re not alone—and you’re not lazy! Your brain is simply wired differently.

How a Professional Organiser Can Help

This is where I come in. My role isn’t to enforce rigid rules or perfect aesthetics. Instead, I help you build ADHD-friendly systems that actually work for you.

Together, we will:

Break big tasks down into manageable steps

Create visible, intuitive storage solutions such as colour coding things, adding labels and giving everything a home!

Design routines that feel natural, not forced

Reduce overwhelm by taking the process one step at a time

Embrace your way of thinking and living

No judgement. No shame. Just solutions tailored to your life and needs.

So if your home feels chaotic and you don’t know where to start, you’re not alone—and you don’t have to do it alone. With the right approach and with my support, organisation can feel incredibly freeing.
